MOVIE REVIEW: SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

Hey, do you miss my movie reviews? It’s been awhile.

I thought I will be visiting a house full of cobwebs — old, boring, and with rehashed memories — but surprisingly, it is youthful, vigorous, and sparkling. Suddenly, Spider-Man movies become relevant to the bigger world of superheroes.

While it faithfully adhere to the friendly neighborhood charisma that I used to know, (in fact it’s the most racially friendly superhero movie I’ve ever watched), it also stirs memories of the great coming of age years of self-discovery and unrestrained enthusiasm. The producers can even make a spin-off from here.

Hollywood’s newest Spider Man, Tom Holland, brought all his youth, swag, and gymnastic skills in this movie. These are evident especially when he has the face mask on. It would be easy to identify him as the best Spider Man that the social media savvy millennials can relate. He seems to be the first vlogging superhero.

It’s the perfect movie for the family especially those with teens. It has great insights on the struggle of the youth and how should it be managed.

Have you tried the popcorn at The Movie Snack Bar in Ayala Center Cebu? I had sour cream and barbecue yesterday for the first time. They were both way better than that of the most hyped brand. Just give it a chance and be a convert like me.
By the way, there are two post credit scenes. Please be patient. It’s fun!

Flu Home Remedies (Non-Medical Relief)

Flu is coming. It’s not only Game of Thrones that is upon us but also the common colds and flu in the air. Since Friday I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather. I have doubled the dose of my alkaline Vitamin C and has been religiously taking my multivitamins. However, these are just a little bit too late since I think I already caught the flu.



What to do? 

My nose are not yet clogged but I can already feel that my throat is dry and itchy and occasionally I cough.

At times like this, I usually employ these non-medical flu hacks and intervention. 

1. A serving of a Hot Toddy. Yes, brandy and whisky can alleviate your feeling when you have a flu. It may not kill the virus but its effect is almost instant. A Hot Toddy is 1:8 Whisky and Hot Water mixed together with lemon and other spices. Try it to believe. Be sure you are of age and please don’t consume more than enough alcohol as it may cause dehydration.

2. Speaking of dehydration, most common cold causes dry throat and mouth especially during sleeping. It is therefore logical to increase the moisture content of your room. But how? Use air humidifiers. There are many air humidifiers in the market today, I bought mine from an online store for only 900 pesos. The relief of breathing through a moist air while your throat is dry is immediate.

3. Lastly, don’t forget to gargle with Bactidol. Yes, I need to be very specific with the brand as other may have not the same effect as Bactidol. Gargling with it directing it to the throat as you wake up in the morning and every 4 hours thereafter and before sleeping kills the bacteria in your throat that may have caused the irritation. This helps to prevent loss of voice. Easy on Bactidol, be sure to direct it only to the throat and not the tongue as it may burn it that may result in loss of appetite.

I think the ’90s is the best decade in my lifetime. It was on the ’90’s when we saw the birth of an invention that changed all of our lives forever; from Walkman to that familiar sound of the dial-up Internet, mIRC and hot mails. A great decade where we learn to hope and take those baby steps to lay the foundation of the technology that we enjoyed today. Plus63 Music Festival with Steve Aoki Live in Sinulog 2017

Sinulog is the best time to party in Cebu. Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is making a surge into the mainstream and Cebuanos are in the forefront in making signature festivals in the country. Music Festival has exploded in numbers and the number of attendees just keep on growing. Everyone seems just wanna let their hair down to the beat of the drums and sway to the ebb and flow of the music. All are friends. No worries, No pretensions, No pressure, Just fun.

With so many street parties and music festivals within the City, the process of choosing from so many options can sometimes be daunting, if not, debilitating. (Oppps, that sounds like a hugot line. Hehehe) On our part, there is one emerging music festival that we have been anticipating since it’s first run last year. Plus63 Music Festival has not only captured our curiosity but it also awestruck partygoers with topnotch international DJs like Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia, spot on premium sound quality and impressive digitally programed fireworks.

Last year, we didn’t know we were in for a big surprise as we enter the venue. The security was tight and very well managed. It was like entering to a themed park. The crowd moved freely and was wild (in a good way). When it was Steve Angello’s turn, the stage dazzled with fireworks but most importantly the sound inadvertently made us goose bumps. It was because of these aspects that we can definitely say this is the music festival to watch out for in the Philippines.

Rico’s Lechon at Axis Vibo Place – Escario

In Cebu, lechon is a commodity. We use it to feed our guests, comfort our weary souls, celebrate big and little successes, and even just to perk up an ordinary day. With a very high demand like that, it is quite expected that most restaurants selling whole lechon will run out hours before they close. This month alone, I have been declined twice. There were just too many diners. Restaurants already ran out of lechon as early as 8:30PM.  An additional restaurant would be a pleasant progression on the authentic Cebuano lechon experience.

My favorite lechon, Rico’s Lechon, is quite aware of the scarcity and has been on a constant lookout on how to accommodate the very high demand.

Last September, Rico’s Lechon inaugurated its new commissary in Talamban which can accommodate 125 lechon cooking simultaneously for 2 to 3 hours.

 And now, just when the year is about to culminate, Rico’s Lechon ends the year with a bang as it opens its newest and most spacious branch at Axis Vibo Place in Escario which is set to conquer uptown Cebu’s upscale dining scene with Cebu’s staple and celebrated food, the lechon.

It’s a two-storey facility with interiors designed by Cebu’s famous interior designer Marie Sheila  L. Solon. The general ambiance is homey and classy. The dining area is wide and can accommodate up to 100 persons dining at a time while the function room has 100 seating capacity.

There may be enough room for everyone but it is still advisable to call the branch for reservation at this telephone number: (032) 233 4144. You may reserve your lechon order ahead too to avoid being run out of it.

Patrons may also reserve or order whole lechon at this branch. One whole Rico’s Lechon is  priced from P3,500 to P8,000.
